Super Rave!: Maybelline Mineral Power Powder Foundation and Blush...

Monday, April 28, 2008

Even though I went into Divas On Main to scope out new Tyler Candles and other goodies, I didn't pick up what I really needed and that was Bare Escentuals Foundation. I just wasn't going to peel off the dollars for it. It's cheaper just to buy a brand new starter kit. I went to CVS after work on Thursday and picked up Maybelline Mineral Power Powder Foundation in Tan/Dark 1 and got the Maybelline Mineral Power Blush in Soft Plum for free according the week's deal.

The foundation is perfect match. It work just like B.E.'s although they can chuck that little cheap kabuki brush. I just used my Tarte Kabuki Brush or my B.E. one.Good for the skin and good for my pockets. Can I get a Amen?

The blush is just as great on me. I love it. I've been wearing both for the last three days with no problems of fading or skin issues. Now I want the Maybelline Mineral Power Finishing Veil Bronzing Powder to try next.:)

Rural Glamourous Weekend...

What I listened to: Besides being on that new Mariah Carey all week, I picked up Songs of The Siren up at Starbucks and its crazy! I mean, you got Corrine Bailey Rae, Ayo, Feist, Keren Ann and other global sisters in music. I always get sucker into a Starbucks CD!
What I'm "painting": I have this fear of not being prepared for the summer season.I've been grocery shopping, loading up on chicken breasts, Pop-Tarts, reuse able grocery bags, soap, towels, paper towels, and toilet paper. Jesus, last summer got me so nervous that it will be the same as this summer. So, while I was at my favorite stop, Greene's Salvage, I picked up all of these not Essie,TS( Trade Secrets) and Creative nail lacquers for .50 each. I definitely won't run out of polishes this summer either.
What I "ran" up on: KLS Cosmetics at TJ Maxx. That lip palette at the bottom is so underrated because its really hot. The texture is just right and the pigments are beautiful.
And then this happened: I went back in the Greene's for my Mom and saw this brand new O.P.I. case sitting on the counter for $15.00 with the regular price tag still attached for 49.95. Copped it!!
And filled it up with the new polishes and clean out the old ones and packed up the fall/winter shades.

Smooches!

The Run In...

Friday, April 25, 2008

So....I went to Starbucks on Wednesday because I had LOOOOOOONGGGG day at that Le Lion and I needed a Chai Tea Latte Iced and f*ck those gas prices and the 70 degree weather, I was driving all the way to the Hillcrest side of thangs to get a frosty beverage and piece of Lemon Pound Cake Loaf.

And of course Marshall's was staring right at me. I thought I would go in and just peruse the home wares clearance... but I ran right into a beauty haul for your A$$!!

So much Stila, Pop Beauty,SJP Lovely, Too Faced, Ruben's Remedies and Sugar I couldn't stand it. Check out the haulage along with some pretty stationary....

-I haven't been in a relationship in 5 years. The Plaintiff don't count...Thank you Jesus!. But recently I realized that "Fashion Boy" and I just don't work. He is 30 and hasn't lived his life.He hasn't traveled, lived in a big city, finished his education, etc. I also think that he wants to run away from his past. He needs to pack up his shit@ his Mom's house( yes, he lives with his Mom) and move away. Just go and don't look back. Drive til' the gas runs out. lol! That's my advice to him. And don't call me no more, I've moved on.:)

-I love Ruby Tuesday's Salad Bar. I could go everyday if I had the dough. And I tend to go the bar at least three times when I'm there. Then I leave feeling like a head of romaine lettuce.

-I wanted kids more than I wanted a husband. Now that I have kids, I don't crave marriage. I don't no man living in my house, starting arguments and stuff. I grew up in a hell-raising house and all I want to give my boys peace when they walk through the door. If I can't give them any material things, I know that they can come home and be happy and have fun in their own space.

-I'll be honest as hell...I miss Rock Hill and Charlotte but I NEVA go back to Charlotte live but I'll take the Rock any day!!It's like home to me. It's just enough city with little bit of country.

-I'm nervous about the summer. Summer in the South is hard. It's hot and the gas prices is out of control. And last summer was rough for me. I had just moved into my house, started a new job, ended it the 1st time with Fashion Boy, and was broke...and my car was acting crazy. I pray for a great summer.:)

-I miss my Daddy so much. He died of Colorectal Cancer in 2006. The last two years I had with him were better than the 27 years before. He told the most important thing that I still hold dear to me...."If a man doesn't want you don't try to make him want you, don't try to make him love you" It was like I had been waiting for him to tell me that since I started dating. Thanks Daddy!

I'll come back with who I'm tagging! lol!

RG PrettyGyrl Spotlight: Nikia Phoenix...

So I flipping through this May 2008 Glamour and I come across the this photo and think to myself..."I know that girl..." And I do. She is Nikia Phoenix and she and her mom are featured in May 2008 Mother's Day edition of Glamour Magazine. And she is W.U. peeps, I met her and knew her my senior year at the W.U. We were is SGA together! Geeks,eh! lol!
I pimped her to spill some of her beauty secrets. She's says...

"Beauty tips huh. It's funny because our mothers should pass beauty tips down to their daughters. The only thing my mom taught me was to roll my hair before going to sleep ( which I refuse to do). But I think I've taught Betty a few things or two."

"1). Just because we're black, doesn't mean we are immune to sun damage. So no matter what, I always wear sunscreen.

2). Use products for your skin that contain vitamin E, because we do age.

3). Invest in really good eye cream ( no one wants dark circles or puffy eyes )

4). Moisturize: I prefer cocoa butter"

"And last but not least...

5) Sometimes we need to exfoliate, but we don't want to dry out our skin. So I make this coffee scrub at home that's perfect.

Equal amounts of ground coffee and brown sugar, some olive oil, and also some peppermint oil. Sure it leaves a mess in your tub, but your skin will be clean and refreshed. ( Caffeine is really good for your skin. ) Hope that helps. Oh, and I love Carol's Daughter products"

Thanks "N"!!!

BigGyrl Fab Outfit 04/20/2008

Hey cousins!!

Earrings: Target
Necklaces: Salvation Army and This N' That
Bracelet: I don't remember, I've had since before I had kids.
Top:TJMaxx
Tank: Wal-Mart
Skirt:Wal-Mart
Shoes:Avon

You will notice that my top is white and the skirt is cream. I did it on purpose, Grandma. As soon as a I walked in church she noticed that. lol! I felt a bit too casual and I still haven't gotten me a start of sandal season pedicure. I looking for a really good spa in the Upstate to knock it out the park for me.

It was great Sunday and good weekend. The weather was fantastic here and the boys and I hung out on the deck and the front porch. I decided I'm going to give my front porch a makeover. Just for looks because I don't sit out there but I know the boys will want to explore the front yard this summer.

Have a blessed day!

Dove Go Fresh

I'm so excited introduce my Rural Glamour readers to Dove Fresh Takes starting my Soror Alicia Keys!!! The "minisodes" are super fun and relatable to our everyday lives as women in our twenties. Now, I'm not in my twenties anymore:) but loved each episode and Ms. Keys is definitely holding her own.

“I am so excited to be starring in ‘Fresh Takes’ created by Dove go fresh because it puts the pressures that I deal with every day in a new light and opens my eyes to the reality that I can be successful in many different ways and have every reason to feel beautiful right now,” says Keys. “I hope the series inspires other 20-somethings to get a fresh take on the pressures in their lives and start enjoying the ride.”

My favorite minisode: Who's Your Mama...lol!

Best Makeup Tip I Ever Read...for now:)

Wednesday, April 16, 2008

I never been a fan of eyeliner. It makes my eyes smaller. But over the last couple the months I've found out that I can't do the whole eye lined but just the top lid. Hurdle #1 accomplished.

Then I had to find an eyeliner that consistency I liked. Eyeliner pencils looked to smugy and just couldn't master that liquid liner mess. Grrrr! But, I am not one to give up...on makeup( ex: false eyelashes). But then I found Precious and Makeup and it was a done deal.

She gives the best makeup advice on her Beauty Blog Network Page...

"Favorite Makeup Tip
New to liquid eyeliner? First, line your eyes with a regular pencil eyeliner and then, trace over the pencil liner with a liquid liner. "

I tried this with hope and faith...and Tarte liner and a Mark Kohl liner in both black and it works like a charm!!

Check out my FOTD from today...ah, bliss. Thanks Precious!

Monday's Question?

Tuesday, April 15, 2008

There are days I still ask myself why am I still in Hometown. Four years ago, it was an everyday question that consumed me but now I see God's beautiful plan. I don't worry as much, very little actually about still being back home, it's working for my good. But TODAY I had to ask?

Why am I still in Hometown?!

I went to Sal and ran up on some books for the kids, another vintage purse and these earrings for .10 a piece. This a pic withou the flash so ya'll can see the cool lines in the white and blue pair.

I wore the blue ones today. I love them. I felt so my Momma circa1983. Good buys and things at the Sal that other people would realize as vintage fabulousness...plus for hometown....

Then the kids and I went to a certain store ( no names mentioned) that has the hot updated magazines and that's basically only reason why I go but lately they got these $1.00 pack of Brazilian coffee that tastes like that Starbucks Espresso Roast that love. So, we go to get some and coffee creamer. I pick up a coffee creamer and for some reason check the date on it. 11/04/07. Way out of date...but usable. I take it up to register and ask the cashier if I could talk to a manager about getting this out-of date creamer reduced. Hell, I'll buy it. It's 1.99, mark it down to .99. The "manager" refused citing that she can't do "markdowns.

Whatever. I don't want it. But ya'll need to pull the rest off the shelf. And I had another cashier do it for me BEFORE. Check that too.

That was some ole' Hometown stuff there. I guarantee its still there. I'm done with that place. They won't lose no money behind me leaving no way.

Negative for Hometown.

Then...the kids and I go CVS for prescriptions and just wasting time. The boys love CVS. They way too big for a shopping cart so they get walk around...well, straight to the candy section and aisle. The CVS' here have these markdown shopping carts full of goodies. The first one I dig into has these ROC Daily Microdemabrasion Cleansing Disks that Glam Mom Tia was posted about a week or two ago. And you are not seeing things, lovelies...the price on the side 2.50 is correct. I got them for 2.50. Un opened and everything.

I would not have found that deal in the 'Burg or the QC, man.

Hometown positive...sales @ CVS markdown buggies.

I still don't have the answer to the question. Maybe because I get good deals? lol!

Jamie

Wait! Wait....let me not forget....I heard that I have very "special" visitor to my blog that keeps up with my life via the blog. Hey D-Dub.:) Smooches! Here is formal welcome to you and your fam and holla at ya girl! lol! This link is for you.

BigGyrl Fab Outfit 04/13/08 and Death to the Washing Machine...

Monday, April 14, 2008

My Sunday Best!:
Top-It's Fashion
Shoes-I can't remember but my Momma said she had a pair like that too and she couldn't remember where she bought either.
Skirt-Issac Mizrahi for Target via The Hillcrest Goodwill Store
Belt- Simply Fashions
Headband- an old scarf off a dress my Momma gave away
Earrings-Tiffany( for real.)
Bangles- you know!....This N' That!

Don't look happy? It was beautiful day and a beautiful service even though Boo and Spoo acted like they had never been out in public. I think they plan to show out before we go to church. Kids.

Everything was going fabulous, Momma cooked, we ate, no TV for the kids because "acted" up ... then my brand new washing machine....

Messed up my clothes. Seems that after I washed a load of white clothes with Ecover Bleach, there was bleach residue still in the machine that messed up ( Lord help me!!) 80% of my spring and summer clothes from last year. I mean my favorite grey dress from Target and the shirt that I just wore in the picture above! Boo came over to this pile and said "Your clothes messed up." Thanks Pumpkin.

I'm sad.

Reclaimed...

Saturday, April 12, 2008

I made it a personal challenge this week to reclaimed my love for Victoria's Secret Blosssoming Romance.

Why?

Well, when I and "Fashion Boy" first started to kick it, I wore it so much. He loved it. So I wore it. Ya'll know how that go. And then we were over( like three times) and I stopped wearing it. It reminded me of the time wasted with that well-dressed psycho. Then a co-worker of mine had it on and decided to reclaim it as one of "my" favorite scents.

I've wore it THREE days in a row. How is that for "reclaim":)

Jamie

Goodies from the "Sal" 2

This "little" haul happened Monday at the Sal. I been giving this one in Union a chance and have been coming up on the come up. No clothes though. I don't that kind of patience in there sometimes....

Vintage handbags. I carried the black one to work and my "Muse" was like "Work it Diva!"( I have to tell you about the "Muse" later. I must be granted permission.:))
Wooden bowls( for my jewelry), vintage lamp and cups and saucers.

Books for Me and the midgets.

Hand knitted afghan. I washed it good and dried it with a Downy Simple Pleasures Lavender and Vanilla Dryer Sheet. Kel has been laying under it since.:)

Goody, Goody... from Big Lots

Thursday, April 10, 2008

Hey ya'll! I scooped these Goody Stay Put Headbands from Big Lots for 1.00 a pack. Cool and Cute. Don't ever sleep on Big Lots. That's where I get my Honest Teas, Pasta, and the boys Pop Tarts', cereal and school snacks. And my bedroom set.:)
Jamie( yep that's the Le Lion bathroom.)

BigGyrl Fab Outfit: 04/07/08 and Super Rave: Carol's Daughter Browning Oil

Monday, April 07, 2008

I was off today from Le Lion. Super duper bored out of my mind because everyone else is at work or school!

Top:It's Fashion( That's my big girl fashion mecca for empty pockets...hell, they got a layaway plan! lol!)
Jeans:Uhmmm...TJMaxx Clearance last year
Jewelry-This N' That Spartanburg
Shoes: It's Fashion( knock off Tory Burch flats that were $3. I got my Momma a pair too!)

I honestly think that this whole outfit was less than $20...put together.

This should be in your summer arsenal coming up. Remember when I was going through hell with Sephora and their Out of Stock Crap. Well, this wasn't out of stock. And I just might put it out of stock!!! Carol's Daughter Gelee de Soleil Browning Oil is absolutely the joint and the jam!!

Now, don't get it twisted, its not one of those after "bath gel oils" where you put it on wet and then dry off. No, you put it on dry skin and your skin glistens for hours, trust. I put it on Sunday because I didn't want to wear hose to church( never do...) but I wanted my legs to look cute. It did the job. Then it smells so tropical and dreamy!!! I paired it yesterday with a sample of Missoni and today I'm wearing it with Rich Hippie Bliss and no scent is fighting the other.

Ah....

Jamie

Need it...Now!!

See? This is what I get for skipping down my daily blog link list. I totally missed the giveaway that Afrobella was having on these HOT HOT earrings from Rhonda Ray. Now I got to put these on the Economic Stimulus Check Wish List right beside the kids' and my Nintendo Wii.

Holla at ya girl, Rhonda!!

BigGyrl Fab: Outfit 04/04/2008

Friday, April 04, 2008

Well, I thought I would test try a new segment on my blog called BigGyrl Fab. It's a outfit of the day kinda thing. At this point in my life, I'm comfortable with my size. Now that doesn't mean that I don't think about losing weight, but a chick ain't got NO focus for a diet. So I eat healthy and swath myself in cuteness!!!
Wearing:
Cardigan- Mossimo by Target
Dress- She's Cool from Simply Fashions
Jeans- Steve and Barry's
Shoes-Qupid from It's Fashion
Bracelet-This N' That of Spartanburg
Earrings-(if you can see them) Divas on Main
Sorry for the messy background in the pic. I'm working on that! lol!

11:08 pm...

I want to give a Happy 12th Birthday shout out to my LS' of the Mu Xi Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Spring 1996 line! Jesus, it was like it was yesterday and I can literally remember every detail of that day. Ah...I miss that Peabody Gym and the wooden floors!!
I have this quad from MAC Sweetie Cakes from almost two years ago. I got it at the The Cosmetics Outlet at the Prime Outlets in Gaffney( must go there soon). And I didn't know how to work it...but I found a cool tutorial on You Tube for just this quad that gave me some great ideas.

6 Random Things About Me...

Thank you Kia for tagging a chick on this. Now I got to think of something about myself. Maybe I should go a fix a cup of Starbucks Espresso Roast to concentrate....:)

-I have never had a Mickey D's Big Mac. That "special sauce" scares me.

-I almost got kicked out of college my LAST semester for "disorderly conduct". Subsequently, that wasn't the only time I was threated to be kicked out. I was slightly "rowdy". My motto was "All because my face is cute and my hair is fly doesn't mean I won't fight you!" But I'm sooooo much calmer now sans Jose Cuervo and other poisons... If you were at the WU between 1995-2000, you knew who I was!

-I haven't gained or lost any weight in 3 years. It's blessing and curse.

-I'm my mother's only child. And she was her mother's only child.

-I don't own a suit and you won't catch in one. I don't like two matching pieces like that.

-Dey Know by Shawty Lo is one of my ringtones. I think everybody I work with got that ringtone too! lol!

- Makeup Related...I don't like lip balm. It's too greasy, eh.

Tagging....Miss Kim, Micki, Mischo, and Nemesis

You gon' sign it!!

Wednesday, April 02, 2008

"You gon' sign it!" is what a former co-worker I had at "HellSouth" said to her fiance before they got married. She told him he WAS going sign that Pre-Nup. She should have worn that new Essie polish in No Pre-Nup, because that's what she told other folks she didn't do and forgot she told me that she made him sign one. Crazy broad. I miss her....
Check out the new Essie Bridal Collection. It's pretty even if you are not getting hitched anytime soon.:)

Super Rave!: L'Oreal Infallible Never Fail Lip Gloss

Jesus be CVS Extra Bucks!! Yes, cousins, the CVS Extra Bucks are a printing and yours truly got 10.50 worth to spend. You know that damn coupon was burning hole in my vintage Aigner wallet!!! And how fitting that is it their "Semi Annual Beauty Sale" with BOGOs and 50% offs all over the spot!

Anyway, I got two of the L'Oreal Infallible Never Fail Lip Gloss in Dulce De Leche and Blush. The name "Infallible" makes me think of my friend and old roommate Alexandria who when she crossed Delta her line name was "Insoluble" which fit her to a tee!

Well, to the point...they go on very light. I put one about two coats. Then it dried in the consistency of a MAC lipglass, kinda sticky. And it stayed on pretty long like four hours, the average of a regular lipgloss. So they may want to cut that "6hr" lasting power out. And I love my colors. I think I'll get two more before the sale ends.

Jamie

Swatches!!!
