Another fashion faux pas is tarnishing the awards season's haute couture reputation.
Jessica Biel's slim-fitting metallic gown from Monday's Golden Globes gala is the same one Hilary Swank wore to a Vanity Fair Oscar party in 2004. Last year, it was Reese Witherspoon who was burned after being caught in a "vintage" Chanel number that had been worn by Kirsten Dunst in 2003.
"I loved this dress and felt great in it," Biel said in a statement Tuesday. "It is unfortunate that I was told by Valentino no one had ever worn the gown before, but I think Hilary has amazing style, and I'm flattered we share the same taste."
Valentino issued a statement, too, but would not specifically address the Biel mix-up: "Valentino dresses are timeless, and each woman brings to them her own interpretation. Two beautiful actresses can be different and great even in the same dress."

What happened? Ultimately, it's the responsibility of Biel's stylist and Valentino's public-relations mavens to research gowns to be sure they haven't been worn to high-profile events before, says Treena Lombardo, fashion market director at W. "But in the harriedness of the season, people are just doing their best with a lot of gowns flying in and out of hotel rooms."
And perhaps a pink slip or two floating around as well.
