My 1st "Nappiversary" Week: New Hair Goals for 2010-2011....

Friday, November 12, 2010

I really didnt set any goals after my Big Chop or for my first year. All wanted was to be able to be wigless and have some length by the summer. Well, neither one of those things happened. I wore a wig all summer because I felt like my hair didnt grow. It took me months to realize my hair was growing I just wasn't doing a good job at retaining length!

So here are my next year natural goals:

#1: Length retention and I want to be shoulder length like Tempestt Bledsoe in this picture. Its not too long and not to short. When I was relaxed I wanted this length too, but never got there.

#2 Hair Education: The more you know about the science of your hair the better you can understand the care. So, I'll be investing some time in researching and reading books about hair growth. I know a little bit but it always good to know more.

#3 Trim and length check every 3 months. I was going every 6 months but I had some problems like single strand knots and split ends that I couldve gotten rid off long before if I had checked sooner.

#4: No heat( only for length check). My hair did well without it.

#5:Try a Ayuvedic regimen starting the first of the year. I heard that regimen works wonders! But I'll start the first of the year after I have ordered everything.

#6:Do more hair blogging. I realize I don't have a big natural hair audience but  its always good to just talk about my hair, more like my own personal hair journal online and you guys are checking in!

#7: Deep Conditioning under the dryer.

#8 Start a supplement regimen. I'm a horrible medication taker. So this will be the hardest goal. lol!

Week 1

Week 2

Week 4

Week 4

There is a bit of a change in thickness that I couldnt capture in the photos. I definitely see it when I apply mascara....My lashes look almost false. Its working so far. The only thing I would say that's super weird is that my lashes are growing wild...some are straight, some have curl, they are all over the place!

Stay tuned for the 6 week update!!

My 1st "Nappiversary" Week: Growth Update!!

Happy Nappiversary To ME!!!! One year Chemical Free ( no relaxer, no texturizer!!)  I've been natural before but not "fully" natural. I had texturizers and relaxed ends or I would Big Chop then put a texturizer in. This is the FIRST time I'm fully natural and boy.......was it a year!! Let's catch up:)

The photo above is the day I chopped my relaxed ends off after transitioning 10 1/2 months

6 months

8 months

1 year!!!
1 year, blown out and straighten with a flat iron
1 year

1 year, I stuck at flat ironing. lol! But Grandma offered to pull a hot comb thru it like it was 1984, I declined her request.:(

Fresh Coat: Sally Hansen Nail Prisms in Pink Diamond.....

Wednesday, November 10, 2010

I swear, I'm always on the hunt for something product elusive. LOL!First it was the WnW Holiday Icon Palettes ( found 3 of the 4), then it was Sally Hansen polish at Dollar Tree. Well, I found the Nail Prisms at Dollar Tree! I don't even remember these but "vintage" Sally Hansen polish is like finding diamond and hitting gold all at the same time in the nail polish addict/beauty addict world!

The picture above is SH Nail Prisms in Pink Diamond ( excuse me, I need a fill-in, I push it as far as I can go before I get one. lol!)

Two coats of prismatic ( is that word?) fabulousness!! And it dries quick too! The holographic texture is BANANAS!!

Here's the Dollar Tree haul from Monday.....out of the four SH's  I got, two of them are same color, just different bottles.:)

My 1st "Nappiversary" Week!: What products I'm using NOW....

Tuesday, November 09, 2010

Ok....I'm going to do a run down of the products that are working for my hair right NOW. NOW as in, if sometimes happens and I need switch it up, I can do that. One important lesson I learned over this year is that I can't play "product junkie" with my hair.Things go down hill when I do that, so when I find what works I don't stray away.

Shampoos and Cleansers

Organix Cocoa Butter Shampoo:  I used this weekly for my shampoo. Its a moisterizing shampoo.

Bee Mine Shampoo Bar: I use this bar to clarify every three weeks. If my hair feels heavy with product, I'll use it when needed.

Suave Daily Defense Conditioners: Co-wash condish, once a week

Hair One Hair Cleanser: Just bought these  and haven't use them. Trying see if they work for my co-wash.;)
 Conditioners and Treatments

Aphogee 2 Minute Reconstructor: I'm currently using this every week to get my hair back in shape after wearing wigs most of my 1st natural year.

Bee Mine Bee-U-Ti-Ful Deep Conditioner: I deep condish once a week and go between this one and two others depending on the needs of my hair. Sometimes I need a light protein, a heavy moisterizing, or a heavy protein. Bee- U- Ti- Ful is my heavy moisterizing treatment

Bee Mine Avocado Cream Balanced Conditioner: My light protein. I do 20 minutes with a plastic cap under the dryer with all deep conditioning

Burts Bees Raspberry and Brazil Nut: I use this as a medium to heavy protein deep condish.

Aphogee Keratin and Green Tea Restructurizer: I use this only after I do the 2 Minute Reconstructor and after I Deep Condish.

Motions CPR Triple Action Leave-In Conditioner: This is my creamy base Leave In that I use with the Kimmaytube Leave In Recipe
Daily Moisterizing

I moisturize and seal twice a day. My hair can handle it and needs twice a day M &S.

Spray Bottle with water: to make my hair pliable when M&S and added moisture.

100% Glycerin: Its been working miracles for me so far. I put about two tablespoons in the spray with water and I get the softest hair.

Palmer's Olive Oil Hair Milk: Best daily moisturize I've used this year. Its light so you can build the moisture you need in layers.

Water Bottle with a tablespoon of Bee Mine Avocado Cream Condish Mixed In: I use this when I feel my hair need a little daily protein

Eco Style Olive Oil: I use this gel for my edges. I dont do raggedy edges. lol
The Oils

I used oils to seal the moisture in. I normally do a Coconut and Olive Oil mix but recently I picked up Grapeseed Oil and Avocado Oil to add to the mix.

Everything I use is for MY hair's needs and might not be for your hair's needs. I have very thick, tightly coiled hair that loses moisture very easily.
