~Hometown Dollar Store Haul!!~

Tuesday, August 30, 2011

***DISCLOSURE*** These items were purchased at a "privately" owned dollar store in my hometown with no affliation to Family Dollar, Dollar Tree, or Dollar General. They have the best stuff in there though! LOL!

Sooo....I went to into "Jimmy's Dollar Store" to get my boys deodorant, back up deodorant at SEVEN years old. ***sigh*** and ran into the steal of the day!!! Clearanced Borghese nail polish and treatments!!

I wasn't able to look like I wanted because they were fresh out of school and we needed get home for homework but I picked up some things really quick plus two other AMAZING goodies...

French Mani sets in Toscano Nude and Toscano Pink....
Duro Nail Strengthener and Maximo Nail Growth Treatment....
Illumunare  Hand Serum and  Radiant Hand Creme...looks like some of this stuff came from Walgreens....

Then, I picked up these two shell bags for a $1 a piece. I got Grandma the same two. See, I love her....I buy her stuff.:) I tucked the handles in and they make the PERFECT clutch...I'm going to repair the broken pieces that I can with E-6000 glue.

Ahh.....:))))

~Adorn'd~ Weekend DIY Fun....

Monday, August 29, 2011

Hi Everyone!!

I had a packed weekend of plans, rest, and creativity. I really wanted knockout some projects and ideas I has swirling around in my head and in the countless journals and lists that I keep! I didn't get to all the projects and then I discovered one I wanted to try later. Crafting and creating is such a release. I turned on some great music to set the tone and got at it!

I watched a video on  making vintage earrings into rings. I have a bag full of missing set clip-ons that I was wondering what I would do with them. The DIY tutorial video for them was simple as pie to do...

First, I had to break part of clip-on off ( which was not easy) and glue the ring post on. I got my ring post from other rings I that I own and never wear....
I loveeee this one....
And here is the other one....
I playing around with making some hoops also. My Wal-Mart has a new craft section full of beads and jewelry making items. Its a God send since the nearest Michaels, Jo-Ann, and Hobby Lobby are 45 minutes away. I literally picked up these beads and stones for like $1-$3 a bag....The rumor is that Walmart is replacing their fabric sections too.
I've been wanting a pair of white earrings all summer....And I would make them at the end of August....but we got summer to at least November here. lol

I saw this combination of wood, diamonds, and turquoise on a jewelry site and that was my inspiration for this pair.....

Did anyone do any DIY projects this weekend????

~Natural Hair~ A Natural Hair Style Inspired by MsVCharles!!

Sunday, August 28, 2011

I just started watching MsVCharles only a while back and I can say she is one of my favorites in natural hair care on You Tube. She's witty, her videos are beautifully edited, and she comes up with cutest styles. I did this 'do after I washed my hair Saturday since I didn't have time to do twists or a roller set ( that's another post soon!).

Its a simple french roll with a bang....MsVCharles does her bangs in twists, then a twist out but I did mine as finger coils. I also used a oldie, but goodie...Ampro Pro-Style Gel or "brown" or "black" or "protein" gel. I gives me the BEST hold and definition in a gel PERIOD. I've tried several of the EcoStylers and I had to take it back to the brown like I did when I was relaxed and it still works perfectly.

Here's my MsVCharles' video on the style....check it out!!! I also own that black comb thingy she has but I opted out to use it.:)

~Adorn'd~ DIY Madness: Necklace Inspiration and More Earrings!

Wednesday, August 24, 2011

From the minute I saw this necklace on Etsy..I wanted it. Its the perfect blend of neutrals with earthy feel to it. I immediately "favorite"'d it in hopes of a future purchase. However I was inspired to try to DIY it. I had some polymer clay in neutral shades from failed attempts of the DIY clay bracelets, some suede cord and....some time.:)

Here is my inspired DIY necklace. I took the polymer clay, shaped them in small, medium and large hoops, then baked them on parchment paper on a flat pan in the oven on 275 for 20 minutes...then took them out and let them cool. I thought about glazing them, but I like the natural sheen of the clay for these necklace...
I strung each loop, sorta in a haphazard way on the suede cord and I had my necklace! I wore it today and love it the feeling of it....I'm very happy on how it turned it. I guess that's nature of DIY...sometimes it comes out good, sometimes it doesn't. lol!
I also played around and made earrings. I got these cone shaped shell beads from Walmart for a $1 a bag.... I love these...can't wait to wear them.

Then....I ran into rhinestone sliders and beads in a smaller dimension ala Basketball Wives earrings. Now, let say this....I have new respect for these ladies who out here hand making these type of earrings and selling them on websites and Etsy. The sliders were $3 for 8 ( I bough two packs) and the beads were $3 for 5 ( I bought two packs)...that only makes one pair of earrings. I have wire and earring hooks...so I spent $12 to make these earrings. I've seen them sold as low as $20 and as high as $75 and those prices include the labor to make them plus listing prices if you don't own your site.

I still like the ones that have all sliders like my girl Katrina over at Kinkabands makes.....but Walmart didn't have enough sliders to make that sort of earring.

So what do think of my DIY creations?? Let me know in the comments:)
