Mr. and Mrs. Fashionista...

Tuesday, July 31, 2007

Sometimes, a Fashion Girl and a Fashion Boy can work out. I totally believe it, I actually dated a semi-fashion boy for three years and it was a good balance of all things clothes and shoes. Now, I'm not saying I've worked it out with the most recent FB, puleeze. But I digress, that's another subject. But I'm loving this whole Kanye West/Alexis Phifer fashionable relationship. The two are captured fabulously in the September's Bazaar. I might pick it up at work tomorrow. I wasn't going to buy it because of the horrific cover photo of Jessica Simpson and other past issues have been such let down. Bazaar used to be a beautiful fashion reference and the magazine felt like paper luxury to me. I definitely get it tomorrow.:)

Fashion/Beauty Soundtrack of the Week!

Tuesday, July 24, 2007

I have two soundtracks that have made me feel so beautiful and incredible this week:
Bobby Valentino's Special Occasion and Streetwize's Sexy Love.

Bobby V is my new baby daddy. Thank God...The one I have needs replacing. I love Bobby Valentine because...he is a pretty boy, I have such a weakness for pretty boys but he also have a sexy voice every since the days of Mista and Blackberry Molasses. My Favorite Songs are Anonymous, Special Occasion and one called Rear View. OMG...RearView is the story of my life right now!! He's so sexy, he makes me feel sexy...We must get married and go shopping at the Lenox and Southpark Malls:).

I'm picky about the jazz music I listen to. There is a radio station out of Charlotte that plays jazz on Sundays, that "elevator" jazz, as my good chica Erica AKA "E-Dub" and I would call it. Every couple songs, they'll throw in some Maysa and these songs that are R&B and Rap songs on pop/hiphop stations but with a jazz spin on them. It wasn't til recently, my other good chica "T-Hall" told me they are from a group called Streetwize. I scope this "Sexy Love" CD up from the cutie hustle man that came in the barber shop while I was getting the kids' hair cut. It's got remakes on Ciara's Promise to Robin Thicke's Lost Without You. Loving it!

Can U believe this: Goodbye to Vibe Vixen....

First it was Suede...now Vibe Vixen... Now what are young women of color going read besides Essence? I remember when I was 21...I didn't read Essence( nothing against Essence, I like it now...that I'm 29). I was over checking out The Fashion Bomb and saw this announcement... check out the article and announcement:

Vibe Vixen to Fold

Lucia Moses

JULY 23, 2007 -

Less than two weeks after being named CEO of Vibe Media Group, Steve Aaron announced Vibe would fold Vibe Vixen, the female counterpart to urban music and lifestyle magazine Vibe.

Vixen will cease as a regularly published title with the August/September issue and starting in the fourth quarter, the company will begin publishing Vixen as special issues focusing on urban culture themes. The company hasn’t determined the frequency for the specials, a company rep said. Vixen also will continue to maintain a Web site.

In a press release, Aaron said there would be “some” layoffs. The rep would not make executives available for further comment.

Vixen launched in February 2005 as a twice-a-year title with a circ of 425,000 (unaudited) and upped the frequency to six times this year. Pages for the first half of 2007 totaled 147, per Publishers Information Bureau.

Wowwwww( As Flava-Flav would say) I guess I'll go down to the Galaxy and grab that last copy...:(

What we do...

Monday, July 23, 2007

I've noticed lately that the fashion magazines are catching on the fashion/beauty blogging community's effect on things. Even the fashion/beauty message boards are rumored to be "watched" by industry peeps to see what's hot and what's being talked about. This weekend I picked up the new Elle, you know one of my favorite fashionistas was on the cover, SJP herself. In the article on her, the writer talks about how when leaked photos of the Bitten line got out how the bloggers reacted, including a quote from one blogger( I know I read that quote somewhere)...Here's the paragraph...

..."When simply shot photos of Bitten's gray hoodies and khaki cargo pants were leaked to blogs last March(well ahead of their in-store debut in June), the actress's fans were very surprised to learn that the woman who helped make household names of Christian Louboutin, Oscar De La Renta, and Narciso Rodriguez was turning out day-to day gear built to fit women of any size or budget. "Maybe it's just me." wrote one typical blogger,"but I hoping for more colorful,Carrie Bradshaw-style pieces. You could find any one of those items at Target or Wal-Mart.Isn't celebrity line supposed to stand out?" Elle Magazine, August 2007

What we do...Fashion and Beauty bloggers, is give the public an intimate opinion from real people obsessed with fashion and beauty. And some of us bloggers are industry folk or fashion and beauty professionals, which is even better. But we run our blog like out lives depended on it. Out of pure passion for fashion and lipgloss! I love reading "quotes" for the blogging community in fashion publications. We have our well manicured fingers on the pulse of all things fabulous!

Weekend Rantings and Ravings...

Another week ,Another day...

The Bam Bamms are in Charlotte for their "court ordered" summer vacation for a week. So, I spent to this weekend chillin, working, basically doing nada. Tried this AMAZING zuchinni pizza from a one of my Rachael Ray cookbooks. Let me know if you want to recipe:)... Here we go....

*So Saturday Morning I took a class at the SPBG library and arrived at 9 am before the doors opened. It was like 30 people waiting. I thought..."The SP library hot like this?" But, no, these people were waiting to check out the new Harry Potter book. One chica told me she was to cheap to buy it then asked where I got my handbag...I told her mark. by avon catalog.

*Why do women go to Wal Mart with headscarfs and house shoes on and then look at you like you should be wearing those Aldo espadrilles with matching bag up in there?

*Will Revlon stop adding new "limited edtion" things to their already wack "limtied edition" collection. Lash Jewels? Gold eyeshadow in roller ball applicator?

*I bet there is not one Devi Kroell for Target bag left at SPBG Target. It sucks to be on a budget.

*Someone please call Charter and tell them that I'm not going crazy...The picture on all of my HBOs is tiling and fuzzy. They know they just as bad as Comporium.

*City of Union, stop charging me $15.00 for a trash pickup when you half-assed pick up the trash.

*I just want a IPhone so I can watch You Tube videos...

*PurseBuzz YouTube videos are my fav!

*That doggone Big Lots...A budget foodie's dream! They have a wine fridge and pod coffee/tea maker in there for 29.99 and 12.00. I picked up my favorite Kashi TLC Crunch bars, some Revlon SL l/gs, and some Chipotle Mustard.

*I got the hookup while getting my sons' haircut at the barber shop Friday...The new Kelly Rowland, Bobby Valentino, Maysa, and Streetwise CDs

*If you got TV One, watch Stage Black...Its quite interesting.

*I can't wait til my Aunties get here in August!

*I got some samples of the new Imari Seduction featuring Jennifer Hudson...I love it.:) Speaking of perfume...I scoped out two "dupes" of With Love by Hillary Duff and CK Euphoria. Scary enough, they smelled really close like the real thing.

*I'm ready already for my kids to get home...:(

*My new favorite flower: lilies!!! The Fresh Market for 3 for $10.

Have a spendid week!

Lest Us Not Forget...

Yesterday was digging thru my eyeshadow drawer for some bronze deep bronze colors. I love a bronze/gold/eye and face. I think I can do one about 10 different ways. I fell upon one of my long lost favs, Revlon Illuminance Creme Eyeshadow Quads in Khaki Suede. I remember back when I live in the Rock, I used to kill the Wild Orchids for a perfect smoky purple eye. The key for me was to layer the creme shadows with powder shadows in similar colors for the long lasting and intense look. I put that khaki Suede on with a couple MAC piggies in Tan and Chocolate and really didn't look like I was going to work at a grocery store for the day!

PS!! There's a $2 off coupon on the Revlon website for any color product!!!

Super Rave: Nubar Diamont Seal and Shine!

Monday, July 16, 2007

I'm becoming a nail polish addict. I think its so important that when you work in the public eye that your hands are impeccable. I don't do acrylics personally so I keep my nails short and neat. But lately I've been playing around with colors and nudes and got a sweet product sent to me from Nubar called Diamont Seal and Shine. Talk about sealing shining, not chip since my Saturday home manicure and my nails still looking majorly glossy! The key is to let it dry all the way so sitting still is a must.

Fashion/Beauty Soundtrack of the Week!

Sunday, July 15, 2007

My father's favorite song was Joy and Pain by Maze featuring Frankie Beverly or to we black folks, "Frankie Beverly and Maze". lol! This week's F/B Soundtrack is Anthology by Maze featuring Frankie Beverly. I Love this group with my everything! Where do I start with the favorite songs? Southern Girl,Look in Your Eyes,Feel That your Feeling,Golden Time of the Day and of course, Before I Let Go. You could be at a campus party in 1999 and the DJ put that on and all these 18, 19, 20 years would go crazy!! It was all because of my Daddy that I love them. I was listening to Disc 2 after long shift at the "Lion". I needed that, Running Away....

Ms. Jenn and Imari Seduction...

Host unlimited photos at slide.com for FREE!
If you haven't got it, get the new Essence( with the sexy ballers or Tyler Perry on front) and check out the sample of Imari Seduction and Jennifer Hudson's beautiful ad. Her makeup was done by Tia Dantzler who also did her face for various events including the Oscars and the December Essence cover. Tia's work is amazing! You can also check out behind the scenes pics at the photo shoot for the fragrance at Tia's MySpace page, www.myspace.com/tiadantzler.

I like the scent alot, even from a magazine foldout. Kinda reminds me of Lancome Hypnose.

Reclaiming the Sun, Moon and Stars...

I decided this morning that I would go to church. I normally work on Sundays and can't get to service or just didn't go. I decided last week that I was going "reclaim" my Sundays for church service. I thought about how on Saturday nights when I was young, my mother would press my hair( b4 I got a relaxer when I was 9) and paint my nails. Then we would lay out my Sunday clothes and shoes just in time for Solid Gold, Amen, and 227. I laid my clothes and shoes out and then I picked my fragrance, Lagerfeld's Sun Moon Stars. This is literally the same bottle that my Granny bought me in Christmas of 1995, our last Christmas together. I forgot how I loved this scent. Have a super and blessed Sunday!

My beauty life in pictures....

Tuesday, July 10, 2007

My mother, who is busy remodeling her house, for like the 20th time, found this behind the bathtub in my old bathroom. And its all kinda good stuff in there like mark. skincare they don't do any more.
I pick these up at the Green Salvage for tonight's pedicure. Creative Spa Raw Earth scrub, foot cream and mud mask for 2.00 a piece with the 13.95 Trade Secrets Salon tags still intact on them.
Here's my late ass Friday Five Plus One, minus one:):

Johnson and Johnson Baby Lotion: I love to layer perfumes with this in the summer

Essence of Beauty Eye Makeup Remover: I found 5 bottles of this that I had gotten at CVS for a .25 a piece. They still make it though.

Pure Grace: I love Pure Grace and I found a Pure Grace Perfume solid in my stuff too.

WnW Mega Pump Highlighter: I used this one morning when my skin looked like a slept on the couch...which I had, but only that night.

L'Oreal lipstick in LE Target Red: I wore this the 4th the July. I like the red but its way too shiny and glossy for me. I need a matte red.

Jamie

Congratulations to the new Miss South Carolina!!

I'm admit that I'm former pageant girl. I love it as much as Friday Night Football. So I had to post a big "Go Get It Girl!" to Crystal Garrett, the newly crowned Miss South Carolina. And as you notice she's a black girl repping South Carolina. Only one other sista did that, Kimberly Aiken Cockerham back in 1994 and won crowned Miss America. I hope this chica knows she is part of some serious history down here. So, Crystal, go get that crown, mama!

Survival of the Prettiest...

Sunday, July 08, 2007

This past week was all about surviving...without my boys. They spent one of three weeks that they have with their father in the summer. It was all about staying busy and getting busy on new things. And watching too much TV and On Demand Movies( the free ones, of course). But they are back, in one piece, just like they left.:) I've haven't been happier than I am today!!

I'll have the Friday Five Plus One on Monday afternoon. I didn't get to do it this Friday because I worked some freaky in the middle of the day schedule at work. But this week I have another full schedule of things to do, most of it wrapped around the TV!:)

World Series of Pop Culture( starts tomorrow...I soooo excited!)

Bridezillas( Absolutely the most ugliest I have ever seen any woman even on their wedding day, and I'm not talking beauty.)

Charm School Reunion-Um...Saaphyri spent her money on a new weave ya'll, not a house.

Hey Paula-She crazy. Straight Up.

An at- home pedicure- got some new goodies for my feet, will have pics of the products tomorrow.

Trying new recipes...I'm now a vegetarian...and I love it! Seriously, the best thing about going meatless( because I decided that I will continue to eat eggs and cheese and milk) is I'm in such I better mood and I think clearer.

Closet purge- I don't have nothing to wear because I got stuff I don't wear and shoes I don't wear. I'm sick of looking at it.

Finish reading Eat, Pray, Love-I love it, really, but I always start reading it and end up sleep.

Buy that new T.I album- Ooooo...It sounds so sick on AOL music. I love Tip Harris.

Thursday Haulie-haul...

Thursday, July 05, 2007

For like the third time, I've gotten on I-585 toward I-85 going to Greenville to Haywood Mall and Ulta on Woodruff Road and got to the exit to get on 85 and changed my mind. It was too hot and all I want was to see if a could find a red polish in Essie at Ulta and go the MAC counter at Belk. I didn't feel like driving. And I can't stand that Westgate Mall with nothing in it but my little cousins and her crew and half her high school. So I went to CVS and Kohls for a mini haul:

Wet N Wild Wild Shine in Red Red- I noticed to today that WnW got rid of all of their lipsticks and have nothing but lip glosses now. I wanted a cheap red polish that wasn't too orange. A true red not crimson red, Delta red( no offense to Deltas...I got delta friends:)) I haven't put in on yet, but nails have taken a beaten since I started my new job.

Milani Runway Eyes Fashion Shadows in Designer Browns-You how Milani does...They come up with something new that no one in the drugstore aisles is doing. It's so pretty and the colors are intense on my back of my hand. I can't wait to try on my eyes. It's definitely convo on MUA about them including an email for Milani about their old and new eyeshadows:

This is a reply to an email that is straight from the horse's mouth from Milani Cosmetics:

The CVS stores are planning to re-set their displays, and they are currently offering the Milani Eye Shadow Compacts that will not be included in the new display at 50% off. (All of the Milani Eye Shadows are not being offered at 50% off at CVS, it is only a few shades that are being discounted.)

These shades that CVS is discontinuing will continue to be available at other outlets, or at Best Beauty On-line at www.bestbeautyonline.com.We do have plans to introduce a new line of single Eye Shadows around the beginning of 2008.

The Milani Runway Eyes Single “Baked” Eye Shadow Compacts feature a new process where none of the pigment’s original intensity is lost during manufacturing. These Eye Shadows will have more intense colors, will last longer, and have a larger net weight than the current Eye Shadow Compacts. The new Runway Eyes Single Eye Shadows will eventually replace the Eye Shadow Compacts only in the CVS Stores. The Eye Shadow Compacts will continue to be available in other outlets, and at www.bestbeautyonline.com.

www.makeupalley.com

Flirt!I'm Whipped Eyeshadow Mousse in Blue Crush-This e/s is for their Hot Tropics story, which has two very pretty blushes in Bronzed Kissed and Pink Tutu. I only got the this eyeshadow but MIGHT got back for the blushes and the Dreamy Eyes e/s in Gold Envy.

Fashion/Beauty Soundtrack of the Week!

Tuesday, July 03, 2007

This week's fashion beauty soundtrack is Fantasia. Now...I know everybody thinks that Tasia is ghetto country and she is but the CD is crazy. Out of 13 tracks, I love 10 and that's alot for me. I listen to it wayyyy too much. Of course the jam is "When I See U". I remember I first heard this back in December when my daddy died and it pulled at my heart. I was in love with my father and that seeing walk down the street toward made me heart sing. And there times I think I still see him...

I dedicate "Two Weeks Notice" and "I Feel Beautiful to FB. He knows why...I'm the REALEST Ms. Two Weeks Notice he will ever know!!!

And the jam "Sunshine" is to all my Southern chicas...its definetly a Atlanta booty/crunk/party music kinda song.

To keep or not to keep...
