~Adorn'd~ Digging for Treasure: Vintage Jewelry....

Wednesday, June 29, 2011

On Saturday, my mother had promised me some plastic craft bags for my beads and her old "twister" beads from the 80s. She said they were located in a drawer in my room aka the guest room that was full of jewelry....full of jewelry. Who has drawers full of costume jewelry? My mother. lol

I found the beads and bags and other GLORIOUS treasures. I told ya'll that I used to collect vintage and retro costume jewelry but stopped because I couldn't afford it....still can't but that should stop the admiration of it, right? Plus, there is inexpensive stuff out there. Especially when its free and in your own "room".

The piece ( above) is a Trifari piece. Alot of the good costume jewelry companies from eras back went out of business in the 70s and 80s...even earlier that. The quality is better than any  overpriced jewelry at Anthropologie and you could wear it and feel fabolous....
See the signature on the pendant?

Some of the stuff that my mother has was given her in bulk was from a co-worker whose mother had died. She gave me couple pieces years back but she never wears the stuff she kept. Ah, the mind of a hoarder. lol

I wore this with my $1 Target men's "Canada, Eh?" shirt.... It felt some kinda way....I love it....:)

That's the chain...there's a name for that design of chain....my Grandma Jane would know, she collected jewelry as well...

Found this seashell necklace,  no signature no company with the name "Waymon" etched in the shell. I think its probably from the Bahamas, maybe the lady got it on vacation.
This necklace here...is mine.:) I used to wear it with a purple and black checked dress that had a white collar that my mother made...she also made this necklace.
This necklace is signed and made by Coro, another vintage jewelry company...its missing some parts in the starburst design....
I was FLOORED when I found this piece! Look at the bows! Its another flawless Trifari piece....
This necklace is signed and made by Hattie Carnegie who was a self made millionaire by selling her jewelry. She  focused on alot of tribal and ethnic designs and her pieces are sought after...I wouldn't be surprised if that is real turquoise...its has a bit of weight to it.

~FOTD~ Peachy Cheeks and Orange Lips....

I know that peach and orange in trend for Summer makeup....so I thought I would try my version of peachy cheeks and orange lips!

I used:

Caboodles Lipstick in Sweet Thing ( I got for a 5 for $1 bin at a local grocery store)
NYX Lipgloss in Smokey Look
Tarte Amazonian Clay Blush in Tipsy
I groomed and filled in my brows then mascara and liner in the waterline, foundation...then lipstick, lipgloss and blush. Super simple!
I used Sweet Thing then Smokey Look in the center of lips....
Tipsy on the cheeks....I LOVE Tarte's Clay Blushes!!!!

What do you think??? Any other summer trend looks you would like to see? Let me know in the comments!

Disclosure: The Tarte blush was sent to me for review.

~Review~ Kiss New York Maxi Shine Lipstick....

One of my BSS' has a huge display of Kiss New York Cosmetics with new and old products. Every time I go in there, I'm excited to see what's new or what I missed the last time I was in there!

I picked up a couple of  the Maxi Shine Lipsticks....over a period of a two months. I got Champagne, Tea Rose, Flirt Alert, Nude Beige and Magenta....

Flirt Alert: A creamy red with orange undertones. Doesn't last long at all and it bleeds.:(

Tea Rose: A creamy "Barbie" pink. It's a bit over creamy in consistency...damn near greasy! yuck!

Magenta: According to some You Tubers....its a MAC Violetta Dupe. Beautiful color....has the best formula of all of them.

Champagne: Super shimmery mauve pink. I really like this one, has the Magenta formulation too.

Nude Beige: A nude beige. lol! Greasy like Tea Rose,no longevity....a bit too light for my complexion even with a dark liner.

Overall: The Kiss New York Maxi Shine Lipstick cost $2.99 at my BSS. I wouldn't buy any more of them, unless I find more dupes of another company in the collection. They are too hit or miss, which I don't like.

Do you own any Maxi Shine Lipsticks? What colors? Let me know in the comments!

~Review~ tarte Amazonian Clay Waterproof Liner....

A good waterline liner is hard to find. Although I've been close, I haven't found one that would not melt into a black blob in my lower lash line and eye.

Tarte sent over their Amazonian Clay Waterproof Liner for me to check out. I've tried waterproof liners in my waterline before but they usually don't give me any kind of color because it fighting against my watery inner lid.

The colors above from the top are: Plum, Black and Brown.....
Picture above swatched: Brown, Black and Plum.

I found that the black was a perfect match for my waterline. It gave me a strong black line and it didn't melt away into my lash line. The Brown was light in pigment in my waterline but not as strong of a color as the Black. The Plum did the same as the Brown. So, the best buy of the three is the Black one. I'll probably will try the Plum and Brown on the upper lash, but most of the time, I only wear black liner on my upper lash line.

Do you own any Tarte Waterproof Liners? How do you like them? Let me know in the commments.:)

Disclosure: I received a free product (or products) for review purposes. I did not receive any form of compensation from the company. All opinions are my own and not influenced in anyway. My reviews are my personal and honest opinions

~Adorn'd~ Vintage Inspired Necklace and My Designs....

 Hey Everyone!!!

I picked up this necklace for $2.50 at the Goodwill couple of weeks ago. I don't think that it is "vintage". Its way too new, the hardware and clasp is more modern. I think it vintage inspired but it doesn't have a name or signature on it. I used to collect vintage and retro costume jewelry hardcore. I had an amazing collection but I wasn't wearing it, so I donated most of it.:(

I don't wear alot of short necklaces...but this one I like alot!:)
I've ventured into making jewelry...again. I did a little dabbling in it back in 2001, 2002 even made all the hostess jewelry for my LS' wedding. I really wasn't confident in what I was doing, so I stopped. But lately, I've caught a craft bug! I have a bunch of DIY and jewelry ideas and project line up to do.

Right now, I'm trying to perfect my "craft" with my earrings before I want to sell them. I made my mother some and she's been wearing them EVERYDAY. O_o. I'm quite shocked. Be on the lookout for my jewelry posts. I'm right now inspired to make sexy hoops with beautiful beads and stones.:)

~Fresh Coat~ Sinful Colors Adventure Island....

Wednesday, June 22, 2011

**look at my pinky nail..Its already growing back!! YAY!!LOL!***

On way to pick up my kids, I stopped into a Rite-Aid in Gaffney SC and ran up on the Sinful Colors Adventure Island Collection that I had heard so much about in the blogsphere. I picked up Adventure Island and Seaweed since they looked "unique" and not so "done" for drugstore polish....in my nail polish-speak.:)

With flash.....two coats, a bit a goopy but an an odd color that I really like I can see this under China Glaze Cracked Concrete Crackle Polish.

Adventure Island reminds me of the greens in the Shrek for OPI collection mainly OPI Fiercely Fiona.
